As part of our customized care model The Strathmore House will set up all clinical services for our residents. These are a few of the local trusted providers we have used for years.

Mark Green, MD

Mark graduated summa cum laude in neurobiology and then completed his medical degree at University College London.  He moved to NYC for his Psychiatry residency and Addictions fellowship (Payne Whitney Clinic, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Cornell Medical Center), and later conducted research in the neurobiology of addictions at Rockefeller University. He was on Faculty at Cornell and Harvard Medical Schools.  He is dually boarded by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both general psychiatry and addictions.

Since graduating in 1999, Mark has set up  and run addiction treatment programs, directed evidence-based dual diagnosis programs, overhauled national addictions and pain programs (Kaiser Permanente, Colorado) and treated thousands of patients.

Mark is an expert psychotherapist and psychopharmacologist. He is trained in many modalities: psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, motivational, hypnosis, and others. He’s currently receiving training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy. Additionally, he often helps individuals to taper from being over-medicated and consolidate medication regimes.  He has written articles in neurobiology, psychiatry and addictions, and lectured at major conferences nationwide.

Joe Flores, MD

In his role as medical director of the Gunderson Outpatient Program, Joe B. Flores, MD, oversees intensive treatment for individuals with borderline personality disorder and other complex personality disorders. The program strives to develop effective treatment approaches for individuals who struggle with narcissistic, antisocial, histrionic, paranoid, avoidant, dependent and obsessive compulsive personality traits. The integration of treatment and the multiple tiers of clinical supervision are the foundational strengths of the program.

Along with the study of personality disorders, Dr. Flores’ primary clinical interest is to understand and engage the person behind the illness. Comprehension and engagement foster coherence, which can become an engine for change within an individual. He considers the family an invaluable resource in treatment and is committed to developing a McLean-based resource for families, dedicated to better understanding the family and advancing the various forms of family treatment.

Karen Wrenn, LICSW

As a licensed independent clinical social worker, I have worked with hundreds of individuals and families coping with issues of depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and beyond. Many of my clients have also have co-occuring addiction problems. Addiction can be all-consuming to the user, family and beyond, making it difficult to know where to go for help.

It is my ongoing goal to help guide clients identify barriers to their problems and behaviors, thoughts that are no longer serving the individual, keeping them “stuck” in current painful situations.

Although I employ multiple treatment techniques, I have integrated shame resiliency as a primary treatment with both individuals and groups. Based on Brene Brown’s Connections Curriculum based on Shame Resiliency Theory (SRT) , I believe shame resiliency skill building is a “missing link” in clinical treatment. My goal is to help clients reconnect with themselves by learning how to be vulnerable. As a dual diagnoses and addictions specialist, I believe this curriculum is an invaluable tool in the recovery process.

I offer this curriculum in individual and group settings. I am currently running Connections groups and will be adding several others to my professional calendar very soon. I am passionate about the shift towards courage, compassion and connection and is committed to share this with individuals and groups in an empathic and supportive environment.

I received my MSW from Boston University with a clinical certification in Behavioral Health. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker within the state of Massachusetts.
